SUMMARY:World Environment Week Celebration at Malwanchal University: A Pledge Towards Plastic-Free Future 02nd June\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Malwanchal University\, in association with the Index Group of Institutions\, celebrated World Environment Week with a strong commitment to combating plastic pollution and fostering environmental awareness. The inaugural session of the week-long event focused on “Plastic Pollution: A Threat to Environment and Health”\, featuring insightful discussions from renowned environmental experts. Prof. Rajeev Sangal\, former Director of IIT BHU and Hyderabad\, emphasized the importance of the ecological balance in nature\, highlighting how human irresponsibility is disrupting this vital cycle. He urged the youth to take the first step by refusing single-use plastic items like bottled water\, stating that even small changes can significantly contribute to environmental protection. \nPadma Shri Dr. Janak Palta McGilligan\, a prominent environmentalist\, underlined the long-standing warnings raised since the 1992 Brazil Environmental Summit regarding plastic’s dangers. She likened plastic pollution to poison\, explaining how microplastics have now entered our food and water\, posing serious health risks like heart disease and other chronic illnesses. She emphasized that unless we actively reduce plastic usage\, efforts to eliminate pollution will remain ineffective. Dr. Ramgulam Razdan added that protecting the environment should not be limited to a single day of awareness but should become a daily responsibility. He advocated for a plastic-free lifestyle as a realistic and impactful solution. \nThe event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty\, researchers\, and students. Key university officials\, including Dr. R.C. Yadav (Additional Director\, Index Group)\, Dr. Prem Nyati (Vice Dean\, Medical College)\, Dr. Reshma Khurana (Dean\, Paramedical)\, Dr. Rolly S. Agrawal (Dental Dean)\, Dr. Salil Bhargav (Dean Academics)\, Dr. Lily Ganju (Director\, Research)\, and Mr. Roopesh Verma (HR Director)\, expressed their support and commitment to promoting sustainable practices on campus. The event served as a clarion call for the youth to take the lead in preserving the planet\, with the university standing firmly as a platform for environmental education and action. \n
