SUMMARY:One Nation\, One Election: A Vital Discussion at Malwanchal University 01st March\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Malwanchal University\, in collaboration with the Index Group of Institutions organized an insightful discussion on the significant concept of One Nation\, One Election. The event\, attended by the Chief Guest\, Mayor of Indore Municipal Corporation Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav\, and Special Guest A.R.T.O. Shri Rajesh Gupta\, aimed at shedding light on the benefits and challenges of conducting simultaneous elections for both Lok Sabha and state assemblies across the country. Mayor Bhargav emphasized that the current election expenditures in India\, which amount to approximately ₹6.5 lakh crore annually\, are equivalent to half of the country’s education and healthcare budgets. By holding elections together\, the country could save a significant amount of resources\, which could be redirected towards essential sectors like education and healthcare\, ultimately benefiting national development. \nMayor Pushyamitra Bhargav elaborated on how the One Nation\, One Election concept could streamline the election process\, reducing the administrative and financial burdens. The frequent elections in India place immense pressure on the country’s logistical operations\, security forces\, and administrative machinery. This disruption often hinders policy-making and development activities due to the Model Code of Conduct. Holding elections once every five years would not only save resources but would also allow for faster and more effective governance. He highlighted that simultaneous elections were practiced in India from 1952 to 1967\, demonstrating the feasibility of the initiative. The event also discussed the Traffic Mitra initiative\, an effort by Malwanchal University and Amaltas University in collaboration with the Index Group\, aimed at promoting road safety and traffic discipline. \nThe event also witnessed an engaging session on road safety\, where Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and A.R.T.O. Rajesh Gupta shared valuable insights on traffic rules\, road safety\, and responsible driving. They emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in improving traffic conditions and urged students and faculty to actively participate in traffic safety initiatives. As part of the session\, attendees took an oath as responsible road users\, further strengthening the impact of the Traffic Mitra program.
