The Index Department of Physiotherapy and Paramedical Sciences, Malwanchal University, Indore, celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2026 on 8th September with a meaningful awareness and community outreach campaign themed \u201cMove for Your Heart.\u201d The initiative focused on creating awareness about the vital role of physiotherapy, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyle practices in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The programme brought together students and faculty members to promote the importance of staying physically active and adopting simple, sustainable habits for better heart health. The celebration commenced with an awareness rally led by enthusiastic students and faculty. The rally spread messages on regular exercise, healthy eating, adequate sleep, reduced screen time, and maintaining an active lifestyle. It proceeded to Index Hospital, where students presented an engaging nukkad natak highlighting cardiovascular diseases, their major risk factors, warning signs, and preventive measures. The performance was witnessed by hospital staff and senior faculty, including Dr. Swati Prashant, Medical Superintendent, Index Hospital, and Dr. Reshma Khurana, Professor and Principal, IDOPT, adding further encouragement to the awareness initiative.<\/p>

As part of the community outreach programme, the team conducted the \u201cMove for Your Heart\u201d camp at Rukma Devi Public School, Morodhat, for students of Classes VI to X. Designed to make heart health education engaging and age-appropriate, the camp featured four interactive stations\u2014Know Your Heart, Meet Your Heart, Cardio Fun Zone, and Heart Passport. Through these activities, students participated in basic health assessments, learned about cardiovascular health and risk factors, engaged in fun physical activities, and tested their knowledge through a heart-health quiz. The interactive format encouraged students to understand how everyday choices such as physical activity, nutrition, sleep, and reduced sedentary behaviour can contribute to long-term cardiovascular wellness. The programme also reinforced the message that physiotherapy extends beyond rehabilitation and plays an important role in health promotion, disease prevention, functional fitness, and improving overall quality of life.<\/p>

The entire programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Reshma Khurana, Professor and Principal, IDOPT, with the active support of Dr. Shivi Trivedi, Dr. Khushboo Jeswani, Dr. Sakshi Rajak, Dr. Sandeep Patel, and Dr. Garima Sonwaniya. The enthusiastic participation of students, faculty members, hospital staff, and school students made the World Physiotherapy Day celebration informative, interactive, and impactful. Through this initiative, the Index Department of Physiotherapy and Paramedical Sciences highlighted the importance of movement as a powerful component of preventive healthcare and encouraged young minds to make physical activity a part of their everyday lives. The campaign carried forward a simple yet significant message for the community: move regularly, care for your heart, and take a step towards a healthier life.
