Hands on CPR session

On 20th March 2025, a hands-on session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was organized for the faculties and Physiotherapy interns at the Index Rehabilitation Department. The session was led by Dr. Baruj and was aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and skills in performing CPR, particularly in emergency situations. This training session was meticulously arranged by Dr. Aseem Yadav under the guidance of Principal Dr. Reshma Khurana. Special thanks are due to Principal Dr. Reshma Khurana for her support in facilitating this important learning initiative.

The key objectives of the session were to provide hands-on CPR training to faculty members and interns,to familiarize participants with the latest CPR techniques and guidelines and to equip the attendees with the necessary skills and confidence to respond effectively during medical emergencies, especially cardiac arrest.

The session began with the importance of CPR in saving lives, especially when immediate medical assistance is not readily available. Dr. Baruj provided a detailed theoretical explanation on the anatomy and physiology of cardiac arrest, how to identify signs of cardiac arrest and when to administer CPR and the step-by-step process of performing CPR, including chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Following the theoretical explanation, a practical demonstration of CPR techniques on a training manikin was done. Dr. Baruj emphasized the importance of performing chest compressions with the correct depth and rate and explained the procedure for performing rescue breaths. Additionally, he demonstrated how to use an AED properly in emergency situations. After the demonstration, all participants were encouraged to practice the techniques themselves in small groups. The hands-on experience allowed everyone to build confidence and proficiency in performing CPR.

Participants gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience in performing CPR, which is vital in emergencies. The session helped build confidence among the attendees in their ability to act quickly and efficiently during a cardiac arrest situation. Participants also learned how to use an AED, which is an essential life-saving tool during emergencies.

The hands-on CPR session, organized by Dr. Aseem Yadav and conducted by Dr. Baruj, was a highly successful and impactful training event for the faculty and interns. It provided essential life-saving skills that will help participants respond effectively to cardiac emergencies. Special thanks to Principal Index Department of Physiotherapy and Paramedical Sciences Dr. Reshma Khurana for her continued support and guidance in making this session possible.

This session not only empowered the attendees with life-saving techniques but also fostered a sense of preparedness and responsibility among the participants. The Index Rehabilitation Department looks forward to continuing such initiatives to enhance the overall emergency response capabilities of its staff and students.
