

Malwanchal University Observes World No Tobacco Day with a Series of Awareness Initiatives

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, Malwanchal University ,under the aegis of the Index Group of Institutions, organized a series of impactful awareness programs aimed at educating the public about the severe health risks associated with tobacco consumption. At the Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, a street play was performed to effectively communicate the harmful effects of tobacco use to the general public. A seminar hosted by the Department of Respiratory Medicine featured leading medical professionals who highlighted the link between tobacco use and critical health conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary disorders, and mental health complications. Renowned de-addiction and psychiatric expert Dr. Ramgoolam Rajdan emphasized the growing number of individuals seeking help to overcome addiction, particularly from products such as gutka, tobacco pouches, and cigarettes.
In parallel, the Index Institute of Dental Sciences spearheaded community outreach activities across Rajwada and surrounding rural areas. Faculty members and students, led by Dr. Rolly S. Agrawal (Dean-In-Charge), Dr. Rajeev Srivastava (Vice Dean), Dr. Chirag, and Dr. Saurabh Khandelwal, engaged with the public and administered pledges against the use of tobacco products. Dr. Ranjan Mani Tripathi, Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, along with Dr. Poonam Tomar Rana and student volunteers conducted educational sessions emphasizing the importance of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Awareness campaigns, including informative poster displays and interactive sessions, were conducted to address both the health and environmental consequences of tobacco use.
The observance concluded with a formal recognition of participants and contributors. Dr. Swati Prashant (Medical Superintendent), Dr. Sameer Wadia, Dr. Anjikya Joshi, Dr. Neha Hissaria, and Dr. Shidra Khan awarded the winners of the university-wide poster exhibition held as part of the campaign. Through these initiatives, Malwanchal University reaffirmed its commitment to public health and its proactive role in fostering a tobacco-free environment, with a continued focus on community education and wellness promotion.
