Malwanchal University Organises Hackathon and Ideation Workshop on Cyber Violence and Digital Fraud

Malwanchal University organised a Hackathon and Ideation Workshop on “Cyber Violence and Digital Fraud” through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), in collaboration with the Index Group’s Institutes of Law, Agriculture and Pharmacy. The initiative aimed to strengthen cybersecurity awareness among students and familiarise them with the evolving nature of digital threats, online fraud and cyber violence. Cybersecurity experts Mehul Dubey and Chandresh Kumar Karn addressed the participants, highlighting the importance of digital literacy, responsible technology use and proactive measures to prevent cybercrime. The programme also provided an interdisciplinary platform for students to explore contemporary cybersecurity challenges and develop innovative, technology-driven solutions.

During the technical session, cyber expert Mehul Dubey elaborated on digital arrest scams, deepfake videos and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cybercrimes. He explained how cybercriminals exploit digital platforms and emerging technologies to manipulate individuals, impersonate authorities and commit financial fraud. Emphasising preventive measures, he advised students to exercise caution while sharing personal information online, verify the authenticity of unfamiliar calls and messages, and refrain from accessing suspicious links. He also highlighted how perpetrators of digital arrest scams impersonate law enforcement officials or government authorities to intimidate victims and extort money. Students were advised not to engage in financial transactions under pressure and to report cybercrime incidents through appropriate official channels. The session further covered the identification of cyber violence, prevention of online harassment and the importance of adopting secure digital practices.

The Hackathon and Ideation Workshop encouraged students to apply critical thinking, creativity and technical knowledge to address emerging cybersecurity concerns. The programme was attended by Dr. Sudha Shrivastava, Director, IQAC, Malwanchal University; Dr. Rajendra Singh, Deputy Registrar; Anil Pandey, Head of IT; Dr. Javed Khan, Principal, Index Institute of Pharmacy; Dr. Surendra Kumar Nirala, Dean, Institute of Law; Dr. Shivam Verma, Director, Agriculture Department; Dr. Ajay Kumar Gaur; and IQAC Coordinators Deepika Chauhan and Lata Tripathi, along with heads of departments and faculty members from various disciplines. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Khushi Narwani. The initiative reflected the university’s commitment to promoting digital awareness, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation while equipping students to respond responsibly to the challenges of an increasingly technology-driven society.
